In 2017, the San Juan Island Family Resource Center has been a recipient of the bountiful generosity of our island community. As the year comes to an end we would like to recognize those who have shared their time, talents and financial support in the spirit of giving. Like many non-profits, our Family Resource Center is used to coping with the stressful reality that federal and state funding for human services is inconsistent and unpredictable from year to year. But the amazing generosity of our local island community is 100 percent reliable!
This past year, our dedicated volunteers provided over 4,000 hours of help to fellow islanders across all spectrums of the community through SJIFRC’s Island Neighbors and Mentoring programs. Generous donors – individuals and businesses from across the community – make it possible for us to provide over 30 no-cost programs and services, despite cuts to government funding. We would also like to acknowledge the committed efforts of our many community partners, including the San Juan Island Community Foundation, United Way of San Juan County, San Juan County Health & Community Services, San Juan Island Prevention Coalition, SAFE San Juans, Rotary Club of the San Juan Islands, Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor, Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor, San Juan Lion’s Club, San Juan Island Library, Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church, St. David’s Episcopal Church, Seventh Day Adventist Church, Island Rec and so many others. And of course, the biggest thanks go to our Family Resource Center clients, who inspire us each day with their strengths, resilience and trust. We wish all of you who make this community so special a New Year of creative collaborations, personal growth and success in all your endeavors!
